Diatomaceous Earth

Fossil remains from single-celled organisms from ancient marine sediments high in silica.

What is it ?

Diatoms are the fossil remains from certain species of marine algae harvested from sediments where they have accumulated over many years. Diatomaceous earth is mixed with soil to make it more porous and resistant to caking to increase oxygenation. While it is porous and promotes drainage, it can also promote nutrient retention.
